A Call for International Days of Action in Support of Alexei Gaskarov and Maxim Solopov
September 17–20, 2010
On July 28, 2010, more than two hundred young antifascists and anarchists carried out a spontaneous demonstration outside the town administration building in Khimki, a suburb of Moscow. They demonstrated in defense of the Khimki Forest, which was at that time in the process of beings cutting down for the needs of big business. The demonstration, during which several windows were broken, received a great deal of public attention. The authorities responded with a wave of repressions. The day after the demonstration, two well-known social activists, Alexei Gaskarov and Maxim Solopov, were arrested. They are now threatened with up to seven years in prison for disorderly conduct, although there is no evidence of their complicity in illegal activities. Meanwhile, the police continue to hunt down and harass other activists, especially those involved in the antifascist movement.

|power_deviation||10:18 am - Environmental Event|
Hi all! I just wanted to give people in the central Florida area a heads up about a cool event that's going to be happening at the University of Central Florida. If this violates any of this community's guidelines, please feel free to let me know. Thanks!
Here's the info:
In February, Power Shift 09 brought 12,000 young people to Washington to hold our elected officials accountable for rebuilding our economy and reclaiming our future through bold climate and clean energy policy.
As an attendee, I can say it was an amazing experience to see so many young people come together for climate change.
This week, Power Shift '09 is coming to Florida and 5 other regions across the country.
Hundreds of activists from all backgrounds working to bring about a better future will come together to discuss the global environmental challenges we face and the actions we can take to solve these issues.
The conference will engage attendees in two days of workshops, panel discussions, trainings and lobbying activities. The Energy Action Coalition includes 50 leading climate, energy and social justice organizations.
The cost is only 20 bucks.
Here are the details for Florida Power Shift:
Power Shift Florida
Friday October 23 - Sunday October 25

|idiolatry||12:55 pm - Please Sign This Petition!|
The Sabbath Memorial Pet Rescue here in Miami, FL is in trouble and due to some issues with the landowner having a lean put on his house, they have to shut down temporarily. However, they currently have nowhere to house these animals. They were given just 12 days to evacuate and have about 10 or 9 left. We're petitioning Miami-Dade County to give them an extension on evacuating so that these animals don't have to end up being euthanized. Some of these pets are of people who recently lost their jobs and needed help taking care of their pets and they still come to help with their pets and whatnot. If you can take a second to sign the petition we made below, it would help a lot. And let me know if you'd like to help us out with spreading the word!
Please Sign This Petition! Saves these dogs from being euthanized!

|misterc||10:55 am - Discrimination Just Doesn't Pay Like It Used To, I Guess!|
According to the Human Rights Campaign:
Exxon Mobil is the only U.S. employer that has ever rescinded both a non-discrimination policy covering sexual orientation and domestic partner benefits, and is the only Fortune 10 company that does not have a non-discrimination policy covering sexual orientation.
I, for one, would rather run out of gas completely than spend one red cent at Exxon Mobil!
